Due to unforseen circumstances, Rainbow Chan will not be performing at Cassette tomorrow night. Quell those adorkable tears of despair at missing said ethereal singer-songwriter though, because MUM has fervently recruited four (!) of Auckland’s finest to keep your spirits appropriately high/melancholic.
DEER PARK
Deer Park’s moniker suits their sonic output perfectly; the band instinctively layer a myriad of obtuse organic textures together to form expansive and ethereal pop songs. Their Facebook states they “make music in front of swimming pools, alone in cold bedrooms or in noisy flats”, and you can tell; every Deer Park cut evokes a specific set of senses that transports an audience to their intended destination. SUREN UNKA
Suren Unka marries Glacial synths, pulsing rhythms and some exceptional personal dance moves together to create an “end-of-the-night-I-need-to-go-home-but-this-track-is-too-good” vibe, and he’ll be rounding out festivities on Friday night and into Saturday morning. And you will like it.

SHADOWBAT
You may not have heard of Shadowbat, but this will be their sophomore performance at MUM and if last time is anything to go by, they will tear shit up in a lovely, atmospheric way; leaving your heart firmly on sleeve.

TEAM CAT FOOD
While I imagine the sonic output of a cat would be a prickly, nasty punkish thing, Team Cat Food have other ideas; think slick and groovy ambiance. I would personally associate their sound more closely with, like, an imaginary sprite or exotic bird (rare, beautiful #compliments), but hey, maybe these guys are cat people. What do you think
